Here we have it, straight from Piff The Magic Dragon himself, the emotional instagram post he made on November 14th, announcing the passing of his beloved Mr. Piffles:

“It’s with the heaviest of hearts I have to announce that Mr Piffles, Las Vegas headliner, beloved canine conjuror and faithful companion, has passed away just shy of his 17th birthday.

For over fifteen years I’ve had the privilege and the pleasure of being upstaged and outshone night after night by that little ball of fluffy indifference. He came into my life when I had nothing, and set me on the path to a career I could only dream of. In the beginning, I may have rescued him, but in the end, he rescued me.

I love you so much Mr Piffles. #RIPiffles”

Over the years, dressed in the most adorable dog apparel, America’s Got Talent fans fell in love with Piff the Magic Dragon’s magic act, which included Mr. Piffles and won over the hearts of many. Their act was then showcased at the prestigious Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

While we mourn the loss of dear Mr. Piffles, we can now look forward to the Las Vegas debut of the newly cloned Mr Piffles 2, thus the legacy of the incredible Mr. Piffles shall go on!

The 61 year old actress attended the French film festival where her new film, The Substance, was spotlighted. The last time Moore walked the red carpet was in 1997 for the film Ghost, but for this appearance, the Ghost actress was adamant in bringing her adorable tan and white long-haired chihuahua Pilaf along for the trip. Pilaf was more than happy to put on a smiling furry face, and let her tongue hang out in true chihuahua fashion.

“She is a treasure, she is my little extra heart,” Moore told  Stephen Colbert during an appearance on his show back in February where she referred to Pilaf – who weighs a mere pound and a half – as her “teeny, tiny companion”.

The Hollywood star also told Colbert that she thought Pilaf might even be a Guinness World Record holder for the smallest dog because she is the size of a guinea pig!

last friday, actress reese witherspoon announced on her instagram page that sadly, her beloved co-pet star, bruiser, from the movie legally blonde, had passed away at 18 years of age.

“with a sad heart, i have to let all the #legallyblonde fans know that bruiser woods (also known as moonie) passed away yesterday. he was a sweet little chihuahua who was very loved. i will never forget all the days we spent together … i’m sure his tail is wagging in the sky. sending love to his trainer, the wonderful @tailsticks #RIPBruiser 💔”

moonie was a rescue chihuahua before reaching fame and landing the movie legally blonde, in which he can frequently be seen wearing adorable dog necklaces and even his own designer pink bruiser sweater.  in fact, you can find an entire bruiser’s line of chihuahua clothing at the famous chihuahua store where brusier’s character is featured on the homepage.

after appearing in legally blonde, moonie gained a huge fan base and later appeared in the legally blonde 2 sequel, where his role was spotlighted as elle woods (reese’s character) fought for a bill to be passed in washington, dc. that banned animal testing called none other than, bruiser’s bill.

moonie’s fame from legally blonde even took him to the unveiling of reese witherspoon’s star on the hollywood walk of fame in 2010!

in loving memory of moonie and as a tribute to his trainer sue chip and the amazing job she did training moonie, let us recall the poem rainbow bridge.

recently we received a lovely introductory email from the owner of a famous chihuahua named asti. asti is the starlet chihuahua featured in animal planet’s dogs 101.

asti is also featured in our informative chihuahua article called, applehead chihuahuas vs. deer head chihuahuas: how they differ. here is the wonderful story of how asti was gifted into the life of rita savelli from windsor, conneticut.

dear famous chihuahua®,

i have always been a cat person and never liked dogs. i was afraid of them. i didn’t like that they slobbered, jumped on you, knocked things off end tables with their wagging tails and that you have to take them outside to go to the bathroom. i felt that this was an inconvenience because it requires you to have to arrange your schedule to accommodate them.

then, in 2005, my son who had 2 cats married a dog lover. they lived in a condo and couldn’t get a big dog because they already has the 2 cats, so they got this little chihuahua named gunnar from a breeder in massachusetts. eventually, they needed someone to watch their chihuahua when they went away and asked me to do it. with resilience, i accepted and it wasn’t long before i completely fell in love with the little guy and soon began a hunt for my own chihuahua.

i searched online and called many chihuahua breeders, but from our conversations, i felt that many were just puppy mills. then i came across a chihuahua breeder site called teeniepaws.com and discovered my asti. instantly i fell in love with her sweet little face.

when asti was old enough to leave her mother, i could not be so cruel as to have her shipped via air. she was only 2 1/2 lbs and my heart broke thinking about how scared that would make her. so i went all the way to idaho to pick her up! crazy, but like i said, i fell in love with her face.

it was 3 flights out there from here, and then 3 flights back the next day. she was supposed to travel in a bag under the seat in front of me and she did for the 3 take offs and the 3 landings, but otherwise, she managed to find a nice warm safe haven all snuggled up in my sweatshirt.

this was in 2007. all the “dog” things i never cared for didn’t apply to her. she was pad trained, so no muddy paws from having to go outside and no having to rush home to walk her. no slobbering and no knocking things down with her tail.

she has all the wonderful qualities of a loving, loyal and joyful dog. she is shy, but very friendly. i had a friend who was battling cancer and i got a therapy dog license for asti so we could visit her in the nursing home. everyone just loved to see asti and she brought so much joy to many of the home’s residents when we visited.

asti doesn’t like regular dog food, so i cook for her. i have no idea how she knows what is dog food and what isn’t! what a smart little dog!

she also has her routines and heaven help us if we don’t follow them! she will let us know it’s time to go to bed with one quick, sharp bark. we pad trained her by giving her a natural chicken treat when she went on the pad and now, 5 years later, she still lets us know she went to the bathroom so that she will get a treat. we’ll say “show me” and she will run to the pad to show us. She has tried however to first come to me and get a treat, then go find my mother for a second one. very sneaky!

asti is a great traveler. she has a dog seat in the back seat of the car and we clip her into it for safety. we also have a pet carrier that she loves and when she sees it, she jumps right in. we can bring her anywhere. we zip up the bag and she stays quiet. but when people do see her, the immediate reaction is “awe!”

because it gets very cold here, i keep her warm in knitted dog sweaters. she now has so many clothes that we had to build her very own closet!

as for how she got her name, she looked so “bubbly” when i first saw her puppy picture online. my mother was against getting a dog, saying we’d be tied down thinking they she might be a pain in the a@@ to take care of, so i named her asti spumante savelli!

yes, we have heard of over-the-top dog treatment, but little ms. conchita posner is setting the new standard.

hanging out at the same millionaire “bone bar” that trouble helmsley does (the white maltese that received $12 million of leona helmsley’s riches), if there was “the simple life” for dogs, little conchita would be paris hilton and trouble helmsley would be nicole richie.

conchita’s mother gail posner, socialite and daughter to the late business tycoon victor posner, stops at nothing to ensure “the boss”, who weighs 1.4 oz, is happy.

so what’s a daily routine like for conchita the chihuahua?

conchita the chihuahua has a full time staff, her own bedroom in posner’s sunset island mansion; a four-season wardrobe filled with fabulous chihuahua clothing and accessories; a dog wig made exclusively for her by ruth regina, the former make-up artist to the beatles and marilyn monroe and gems like her recent christmas gift, a tiffany’s gold and diamond necklace with a ring which serves as her “evening collar”.

little conchita travels everywhere with gail which includes daily lunches at the shore club’s ago, here she keeps her physique trim with grilled chicken breast carefully placed on a napkin to absorb any excess grease. it doesn’t end there. “the boss” will also get a range rover of her choice as posner feels that her chauffeured escalade is no longer big enough for just the two of them.

posner is a huge philanthropist and recently donated $25,000 to a local humane society in support of pro-life for sheltered animals, one of many charities that posner has donated to. posner definitely spoils her tiny teacup-sized chihuahua conchita, but she also gives back to charity and that in our books makes her a wonderful person.

some time ago, paris hilton revealed that she had 17 dogs on the ellen degeneres show. apparently this was a violation of a los angeles animal statute that allows only three dogs per household. la animal services showed up at her place to investigate the situation. it was discovered that in these snug circumstances, her dogs were breeding in relatively short time periods and that she didn’t want to place the chihuahua puppies in new homes.

this information left famous chihuahua wondering when is it too many? at what point do you draw the line with chihuahua ownership and how could a “celebrity” be so careless when it comes to proper chihuahua care?

let’s face it, if paris was smart she would be neutering her pets and adopting chihuahuas and opening her home up to sheltered chihuahuas, then all these wonderful little rescue dogs could live the good life like they deserve and model her glamorous dog clothing… or is that what it’s really all about, a devious attempt to achieve success by breeding the best chihuahuas to showcase her line of dog clothing? what are your thoughts? we want to know!

if ever you needed another reason to despise paris hilton — utter vapidity, being famous despite having no discernible talent, overuse of the teeth in her sole legitimate screen role — the folks at san francisco animal care and control (acc) have found one. they are up to their ankles — literally — in chihuahuas, a condition they blame on “paris hilton syndrome.”

rebecca katz, animal control’s aptly named acting director, confirms that a couple of chihuahuas a day are showing up on her doorstep; she currently has enough teacup dogs to start her own miniature iditarod team. chihuahuas make up about 20 percent of all the dogs at the shelter. it’s a condition staff blame on the confluence of a lousy economy with “cultural” figures like hilton as well as films like legally blonde or beverly hills chihuahua, in which the purse dogs were feted as fashion accessories.

the number of owner-surrendered pets has jumped 13 percent in the last six months, and chihuahuas are disproportionately represented. katz additionally suspects that the city’s spay-and-neuter message has not penetrated the chihuahua-in-purse community. this prompts two questions: 1. what’s going on in those purses? and 2. can we blame paris hilton for this, too?

on a recent trip to the shelter, visitors were greeted with a multipart harmony of chihuahuas yodeling. one of the feistiest of the musical little dogs, sonny, had inexplicably languished in a holding pen. with time running low, shelter employee christine scanlon finally relented and adopted the critter. and since he’s actually named after the famously well-equipped godfather character sonny corleone, it’s apt that sonny is too big to fit in a purse.

ankle-biter dogs aren’t the only animals flooding acc these days. staffers are bracing for the annual post-easter plague of bunnies. these will join a batch of 10 albino rabbits that actually came in before the holiday, when a band of druggies getting high near candlestick park realized the bouncing bunnies they initially took to be hallucinations were actually real. the socially responsible stoners immediately phoned acc (what a city).

anticipating impulse adoptions — and quick returns — acc actually refuses to give up any of its bunnies in the days prior to easter. for that matter, black cats are not adopted out on oct. 30 or 31. and no leprechauns are released prior to st. patrick’s day.

“we like to keep those as shelter pets anyway,” katz quips.
